Ionia Girls Swim wins vs. Grand Rapids Union

Ionia Girls Swim hosted Grand Rapids Union tonight and won 107-78.  The relay team of Madeline McGee, Brynn Lepien, Anouk Demel and Maelys Bonafe took home first in the 200 freestyle relay with a 1:48.18, earning a cut time for the MISCA meet in October.   

Ionia relay teams took first, second and third in the 200 yard medley relay. Bonafe and Calah Holman took first and second in the 200 yard freestyle.  McGee took first in the 200 yard individual medley.  Riley Browne raced hard in the 200 IM, set a personal best time, but was out-touched in the last few yards.  Demel took first in the 50 yard freestyle and the 100 yard butterfly.  Eily Martinez raced to the finish in the 50 yard freestyle and just out-touched the competition earning her 4th place.  Marte Van Diest made her diving debut with her first time competing 6 dives.  Josie Phelps, Holman and Martinez took 1, 2, and 3 in the 100 yard freestyle. Sydney Estep dropped more than 40 seconds to finish second in the 500 yard freestyle.  Lepien took first in the 100 yard backstroke.  The Ionia relay teams took first and second in the 400 yard freestyle to end the night on a high note.  Relay members included Holman, Abbye Wood, McGee, Lepien, Martina Sierra, Estep, Bonafe and Phelps.  There were 29 personal best swims over the course of the night.

Ionia's overall record improves to 5-2.

Ionia will travel to Mason on Thursday, October 7 for the next conference meet.  The meet will start at 6:30 p.m.
