Ionia hosted Williamston in the last dual meet of the season, losing a heart-breaker, 84-86.  The team honored our seniors before the meet began, and then there was a fight to finish where every race mattered and every point counted.  The Ionia girls fought hard to swim well for the seniors, but the girls from Williamston swam well, too.  It was certainly an exciting night on the pool deck.  The tone was set from the very first race, the medley relay, where our A relay was out-touched for 1st place by 0.03.   While heart-breaking, the relay team of Katelyn Lamphere, Amelia McGee, Eily Martinez and Ella Udell dropped more than 5 seconds.

Sydney Estep and Eily Martinez are both 4 year veterans of the swim team.  Sydney had best times in 3 of her events today, posting some of the best races of the season.  Eily had best times in 2 of her races, fighting hard to the finish and being narrowly out-touched in the 100 butterfly.  Both girls were honored before the meet, and the team celebrated together with dinner after the meet.

It's been a tough week in practice, and in spite of that there were 42 best times.  Kennedy Batista had the biggest times drops of the night including more than 40 seconds in the 500 yard freestyle and more than 5 seconds in the final leg of the 400 yard freestyle relay.  That fight to the finish brought home 3rd place for her relay.  Kennedy's hard work is paying off.

Other highlights of the meet included:

Amelia McGee took first in the 200 yard and 500 yard freestyle relay

Katelyn Lamphere took first in the 200 yard individiual medley.

Isabelle Robinson took second in the 100 yard backstroke

Ella Udell swam hard in the 100 yard freestyle and took second by 0.45.  Ella also took second in the 50 yard freestyle.

The relay team of EIly Martinez, Katelyn Lamphere, Isabelle Robinson, and Amelia McGee took first in the 400 yard freestyle relay.
