Ionia finishes 3rd at CAAC Red Conference Meet

Game Date
Nov 4, 2023

Ionia swimmers traveled to Mason on Friday and Saturday to compete in the CAAC Red Conference Meet, finishing 3rd overall.

Over the course of two days, everyone had a least one personal best time.  In all, we had 88 best time swims.  We had several girls stay the same or improve on their seeding place.  Sixteen out of the twenty-six team members qualified for event finals on Saturday.  There were some very tight races, and our swimmers raced hard to the end.  Amelia McGee got a state cut time in the 200 yard freestyle; this is her fifth state cut time of the season.

The best compliment of the event was when one of the officials said that our team represented Ionia well.  They were polite and kind and demonstrated good sportsmanship.  The officials noticed and were impressed.

Highlights of the event finals included:

Amelia McGee took home gold as the conference champion in both the 200 yard freestyle and the 100 yard backstroke.

The relay team of McGee, Eily Martinez, Katelyn Lamphere, and Ella Udell took silver in the 200 yard freestyle relay.

The team of Martinez, Isabelle Robinson, Lamphere and McGee took silver in the 400 yard freestyle relay.

Katelyn Lamphere finished 4th in the 100 yard freestyle and 5th in the 200 yard freestyle.

Isabelle Robinson finished 4th in the 500 yard freestyle and 7th in the 200 yard individual medley

Ella Udell finished 5th in the 50 yard freestyle.

Sydney Estep finished 6th in the 100 yard backstroke.

JoAnna Platte finished 7th in the 100 yard freestyle and 8th in the 50 yard freestyle.

Addy Lepien finished 8th in the 100 yard backstroke.

Ionia finished tied for 3rd in the CAAC Red Conference with a record of 4-3.  Some girls will travel to Holland on Tuesday to improve on their times.  Amelia McGee will travel to Oakland University on November 17 to compete in the Division 3 state finals.
