The Ionia girls’ cross country team took on strong competition at the Cougar-Falcon Invitational at Gainey Athletic Complex on the campus of Calvin University on Saturday. The Bulldogs chose to split and have some girls run varsity and others run in the freshman race so they did not earn a team score. First across the line for Ionia was Megan Lennemann who placed 26th in a lifetime personal-record time of 20:27. She was joined in the varsity race by fellow senior Clara Deeren who placed 57th in 22:55. Leading the way in the freshman race was Carleigh Thompson who medaled as a result of her 12th-place finish and lifetime pr of 22:55. Also earning lifetime pr’s were Hannah Luttman with a time of 28:37 and Angie Reyes with a time of 37:33. The Bulldogs will travel north to Shepherd for the Blue Jay Invitational on Saturday, October 1st.
