The Ionia Girls’ Cross Country team opened their season at the Cougar 2-Mile hosted by Lansing Catholic at St. Francis Retreat Center in DeWitt. The runners were split into two races seeded by expected time so there were no team scores. The girls raced well, passing several competitors during the second mile of the race. Freshman Carleigh Thompson was the top Bulldog in the slower race, clocking 15:03 to place 14th out of 76 runners and earning a medal. Senior Megan Lennemann paced the Bulldogs in the faster race, moving up aggressively to placing 16th in 13:20. The Bulldogs will return to action on Wednesday when they travel to the Saranac Invitational.
