The Ionia Girls’ Cross Country team hit the course at Uncle John’s Cider Mill for the Marauder Invitational Wednesday evening. The Bulldogs ran well through the orchards, finishing 5th out of 10 teams. Maddie Hanulcik was the top Bulldog, finishing 4th out of 105 girls in 21:09. Clara Deeren followed with a strong 6th place finish in 21:09. Megan Lennemann continued to improve in her first season, clocking a personal record time of 23:46 to finish in 28th place. Rounding out the top 5 were Paige Campbell, 61st place in a personal record time of 25:51 and Tempyst Aikens, 88th in a season record time of 29:37.
The Bulldog women will return to action on Saturday at the Central Montcalm Hornet Invitational. This race will follow a different format, with athletes only competing against other athletes who are in the same grade.
