The Ionia Girls’ Cross Country team kicked off their season this evening at the Lansing Catholic 2-Mile Invitational. The meet was held under very difficult conditions with a heat index just over 100. Runners were divided into 2 races based on a seed time, rather than the traditional varsity 7 and jv races, so no team scores were available.
Leading the way for the Bulldogs was Maddie Hanulcik who finished in 11th place in the fast heat with a time of 12:55. Clara Deeren followed closely behind, finishing in 27th place with a time of 13:35. Megan Lennemann competed in her first high school cross country race, placing 16th in the slower heat with a time of 15:25. Tempyst Aikens followed her in, placing 78th in 20:07.
The Bulldogs will get back to work in practice to prepare for their next meet, the Saranac Invitational on September 1.
