Tonight the Bulldogs traveled to Portland for their last game of the season. Even though it was not the outcome we wanted the team played well. Going into the half the Bulldogs were only down 8, 22-14. We knew coming out in the third quarter we would need to execute but Portland was able to build on their lead 36-22. The team continued to give an effort. Two players leading that were Tanner Batista and Garrett Gorby. Final score was Ionia 30 and Portland 47. Leading scorers were Chase Reister with 11 and Garrett Gorby with 10. Other scorers were Tanner Batista with 6, Parker Spitzley with 3, and Austin Ayany with 2. The team ended with a record of 0-10. Again there was individual growth throughout the season and persistent effort during games but were just unable to put a whole 4 quarters together. Great Job Team!

Tonight the Bulldogs traveled to Eaton Rapids. It was a game where the team was unable to find any kind of rhythm on offense or defense. They continued to play hard but never found their groove. With a slow start in the first quarter, the Bulldogs were able to cut into Eaton Rapids lead in the second, and at the end of the first half the score was 32-26. The team came out slow in the third and Eaton Rapids took advantage and built their lead 49-32. More of the same in the fourth and final score was Ionia 39 and Eaton Rapids 60. Again in the second quarter, it was difficult to get the offense going and the team was down 26-17. The team battled throughout the second half and cut the lead to 4 points with under 10 seconds but ran out of time. Overall, it was the most complete game the team has played all year. In the second there were a couple of letdowns on defense and Portland was able to hold the lead into half, 30-24. The team focused on starting the third quarter with the same intensity as the first quarter. The team looked better but fell short in the second half losing 66-46. Tonight Ionia traveled to Olivet for their fourth game of the season. It was a good start for the Bulldogs as they hung close to Olivet and were only down 31-23 at halftime. The third quarter seems to be where the Bulldogs run into trouble. Again they came out sluggish and Olivet took advantage and built their lead to 25 points. But Ionia never gave up and continued to fight. They outscored Olivet 21-8 in the fourth quarter but it was too much to overcome and lost 62-50. Leading scorers were Chase Reister with 20 points and Quintin Castillo with 12 points all 3-pointers. Other contributors were Austin Ayany with 8 points, Landon Gerstein with 5 points, Garrett Gorby with 2, Parker Spitzley with 2, and Omari Mckinney with 1 point. The team is now 0-4 on the season. Tonight, the Bulldogs hosted Charlotte for their first game of the season. Ionia came out aggressively and built a one-point lead after the first quarter. Charlotte was able to take a lead in the second quarter, and at halftime, Ionia was down 21-19. The team talked about keeping up the intensity from the first half but with some costly misplays, Charlotte took a big lead into the third. Ionia continued to battle throughout the game and never gave up. The final score was Ionia 40 and Charlotte 64. Leading scores were Tanner Batista with 10 points and Chase Reister with 7. Tonight the Bulldogs traveled to Lakewood for their first game of the season. The team started strong in the first quarter but gave up the lead late and trailed 10-16. The Bulldogs continued to play efficiently and were only down 17-22 going into the half. In the third quarter, Lakewood took advantage of our play and built their lead going into the fourth. Lakewood continued to put pressure on the Bulldogs and won 54-24. Leading scorers were Garrett Gorby with 9 points, Chase Reister with 8 points, Conner Vanallsburg had 4 points, Landon Gerstein had 2, and both Quintin Castillo and Tanner Batista had 1.
