The Ionia boys jv basketball team won a close game by a score of 39-38 on Friday night. There was a lot left to be desired on the offensive side, but holding a very good Lansing Catholic team to just 38 points shows our defensive tenacity. 

The Bulldogs held a 21-18 lead at halftime and both teams came out struggling to score. Ionia still held the lead 33-31 going into the fourth quarter. Lansing Catholic got a defensive rebound and took it the length of the court to take their first lead of the game with 35 seconds left in the game. Ionia called a timeout and set up their offense, we got a good look at the rim and missed it. Carter Starks fought for the rebound, controlled it, then scored the bucket which would end up being the game winner.

Carter finished with a double double, 11 points and 12 rebounds. Wyatt Erridge took 2 charges, and led scoring with 13 points. Trevor Hodges, and Wolton Sandborn both did a great job on the defensive side and on the glass.

Ionia Jv improves to 12-0 and 6-0 in the conference. We will travel to Thornapple Kellogg Tuesday at 5:30.
