Ionia Varsity Girls Swim beat Corunna tonight 108-72.  It was exciting night on the pool deck, and the girls are really coming together as a team, supporting and encouraging each other.  The swimmers put forth their best effort even when several were put in races that are not their best events.  Overall, we had 23 best times which is impressive given how early we are in the season.

Katelyn Lamphere took first in the 200 yard freestyle and the 100 yard butterfly, racing hard to the finish.

Amelia McGee took first in the 200 yard individual medley and the 500 yard freestyle.

Isabelle Robinson took first in the 100 yard freestyle

Ella Udell and Maddie Lemke took first and second, respectively, in the 100 yard backstroke, with best times for both swimmers.

Ionia took 1st in all 3 relays thanks to teams consisting of Amelia McGee, Kennedy Batista, Adah Drown, Isabelle Robinson, Ella Udell, Kaylynn Doty, and Katelyn Lamphere. 

Ionia also took 2, 3 and 4 in the 50 yard freestyle, thanks to Adah Drown, Kennedy Batista and Mariya Berry.

Other notable finishes included Taylor Browne who raced to the finish to edge out her competition, Lena Cox who dropped over 12 seconds in the 500 yard freestyle, and Nadya Strickling who dropped almost 18 seconds in the 100 yard backstroke.  

Ionia is now 1-0 for the season. 

Ionia will host Mason for their first home meet next Thursday, September 5.
