The Ionia Girls Varsity Swim Team traveled to Holt today to participate in their first invitational of the season.  Out of 7 teams, Ionia took 3rd with a score of 259 points.  In her first backstroke swim of the season, Amelia McGee took first in the 100 yard backstroke with a state qualifying time of 1:04.31. 

There were twelve personal best swims which is an accomplishment so early in the season.  Sydney Estep, Mariya Berry and Adah Drown had the biggest time drops of the day.  

Several girls placed in the top 8.  In addition to 1st in the backstroke, McGee took second in the 200 yard freestyle.  The relay team of McGee, Isabelle Robinson, Brynn Labadie and Eily Martinez took third in the 200 yard freestyle relay.  The team of Martinez, Katelyn Lamphere, Labadie and McGee took 4th in the 400 yard freestyle relay.  Lamphere finished 5th in the 50 free out of a field of 51 swimmers; Lamphere also took 7th in the 500 yard freestyle.   Robinson finished 5th in the 100 yard backstroke and 8th in the 200 yard freestyle.  Labadie took 6th in the 100 yard freestyle.  Martinez took 7th in the 100 yard butterfly.  Addy Lepien finished 7th in the 100 yard backstroke.  

Ionia will host Corunna at home on Wednesday, August 23.  The meet will start at 6:00 p.m.
