WAVERLY SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL: 71

Ionia Girls Varsity Swim won tonight vs Waverly, 91-71.  It was a special night as the team honored the three seniors and co-captains - Riley Browne, Alexis Burns and Madeline McGee.  All three girls have been members of the team for four years and left their mark on Ionia swimming.  The evening started with recognition of the seniors and finished with a ceremonial "last 25" as the girls swam down the pool one last time on a competition night.

Highlights of the meet included:

Ella Udell took first the in 200 yard individual medley, a race she had never swam before.

Madeline McGee took first in the 100 yard freestyle and 100 yard backstroke.

The relay team of Eily Martinez, Brynn Labadie, Sydney Estep, and Amelia McGee took first in the 200 yard freestyle relay.

Alexis Burns took first in the 100 yard breaststroke.

There were 17 other personal best times.  Taylor Browne dropped 6 seconds in the 200 yard freestyle and another 2 seconds in the 100 yard freestyle.  Katelyn Lamphere dropped 16 seconds in the 500 yard freestyle.  Mariya Berry dropped 15 seconds in the 400 yard freestyle relay split.  Several other swimmers tried races they hadn't swam before.  Everyone worked hard while being tired and sore from a tough week at practice.  Earning the win was a nice way to honor our seniors in their last home dual meet.

Ionia is currently in second place in the CAAC Red, finishing dual meets with a record of 6-1.  Ionia will compete in the CAAC Red Conference Meet on Friday and Saturday, November 4-5.
