Ionia varsity swimmers took 5th today the relay invitational at Hastings High School with a score of 282 points. Because every event was a relay, more swimmers had the opportunity to race and to try strokes they haven't swam in a meet yet. There were no disqualifications for stroke violations which is big deal for these young swimmers learning all of the strokes. Every girl in the water today earned varsity points, and there were 26 personal best times.
The competition was fast today, but our team worked hard to do their best. Our top finishers included:
4th place finish in the 200 yard backstroke relay - Eily Martinez, Isabelle Robinson, Sydney Estep and Amelia McGee
5th place finish in the 800 yard freestyle relay - Amelia McGee, Isabelle Robinson, Brynn Labadie and Madeline McGee
Ionia will travel to Haslett on Thursday for the next conference meet.
