MASON HIGH SCHOOL: 0
Ionia traveled to Mason today to compete in an invitational and finished in fifth place. Most girls swam in new events or events they don't typically swim. The top 6 in each event earned medals, and we had several Ionia swimmers bring home hardware in spite of sore muscles from a tough week at practice. Madeline & Amelia McGee both swam their way to state cut times in their events. There were 20 personal best times including an impressive 20 second drop in time by Isabelle Robinson in the 200 yard freestyle.
Mimi Wegener took 3rd in diving. As a new diver to the team, she continues to make progress at every meet.
The medley relay team of Brynn Labadie, Madeline McGee, Amelia McGee and Eily Martinez took fourth.
Madeline McGee took 2nd in both the 50 yard freestyle and the 100 yard butterfly, both with state cut times. She now has 5 events with state cut times.
Amelia McGee took 3rd in the 100 yard butterfly, breaking her own freshman record. She took first in the 100 yard backstroke with a state cut time.
The new swimmer 200 free relay of Kennedy Batista, Isy Vasquez, Ella Udell, and JoAnna Platte took 4th. These girls are all new to the sport of competitive swimming and have learned a lot in a relatively short amount of time.
The 400 free relay of A. McGee, Isabelle Robinson, Brynn Labadie, and Sydney Estep place 6th.
Overall, the girls swam well, with most earning varsity points from at least one of their events.
Ionia hosts Charlotte on Thursday for the purple meet at home at 6:00 p.m. The shirt ceremony and other events will take place after the conclusion of the meet.
