The Ionia girls varsity team traveled to Hastings High School and lost 77-101.  In spite of the loss, several fast swims were recorded.  Madeline McGee took first in both the 200 yard freestyle and 100 yard backstroke, earning state cut times in both events.  Amelia McGee took first in the 50 yard freestyle and 100 yard fly.  She set a new freshman team record in the 100 fly.  Amelia also set a new freshman record in the 100 freestyle with her lead leg of the 400 freestyle relay.  Eily Martinez took second in the 500 yard freestyle, dropping almost 25 seconds and setting a new personal record.  Other stand out performances included Alexis Burns dropping 5 seconds in the 100 yard backstroke, Brynn Labadie dropping 18 seconds in the 100 breaststroke, Katelyn Lamphere dropping 6 seconds over last week's best time in the 100 freestyle, Taylor Browne dropping 8 seconds in the 100 yard freestyle, and Kennedy Batista dropping 5 seconds in the 50 butterfly.  In all, there were fourteen girls with personal best times.  They are working hard in the pool and improving every day.

Ionia hosts Eaton Rapids next week in the first home meet of the season on September 8 at 6 p.m.
