MASON HIGH SCHOOL: 99
Ionia traveled to Mason tonight to swim Bulldogs vs Bulldogs. Ionia lost 87-99 with several close races falling to the advantage of Mason. It was a tough loss.
Highlights included: The relay team of Maelys Bonafe, Madeline McGee, Brynn Lepien and Calah Holman took first in the 200 yard medley relay. Anouk Demel took first in the 200 yard freestyle with a best time. Demel also took first in the 100 yard butterfly, out-touching her competition by 0.31. Bonafe took first i the 200 yard individual medley and the 100 yard freestyle. McGee took first in the 50 yard freestyle and the 100 yard backstroke. Lepien took first in the 500 yard freestyle. The team of Demel, Phelps, Lepien and McGee took first in the 400 yard freestyle relay.
Josie Phelps took 2nd in diving with a personal best score and her highest finish as a diver. Phelps also took 3rd in the 50 yard freestyle by 0.02 in a tight race to the finish. Calah Holman took second in the 100 yard breaststroke with a personal best time and a solid race. In the 100 yard butterfly, Holman also had a personal best time and out-touched her competition by 0.13.
In their individual races, Eily Martinez, Sage Brown, Abbye Wood and Riley Browne all dropped significant amounts of time off of their own personal records. In all, there were 23 best times recorded by Ionia girls.
Ionia's record is now has an overall record of 5-3, 2-1 in the CAAC Red conference
Ionia will host Williamston on Thursday, October 14. This is the last home meet of the season where we will honor our seniors and our exchange students. The meet starts at 6:00 p.m., with senior recognition just before the meet and again at the very end.
