The girls varsity swim team hosted the first home meet of the season against both Corunna and Alma.  The double dual meet resulted in two wins for Ionia.  Final scores were Ionia 98 - Corunna 67; Ionia 101 - Alma 62.  With all of the swimmers on the deck, the energy was infectious, and the sportsmanship was abundant.  The camaraderie helped the team to swim strong races and experience a lot of success.  Maelys Bonafe swam the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:20.59, taking first place and getting a state cut time; she also took first in the 100 yard freestyle.  Madeline McGee took first in the 200 yard freestyle and the 100 yard butterfly.  Anouk Demel took first in the 100 yard backstroke and the 500 yard freestyle.   Our relay teams took first in each of the relay events.  For the medley relay, the team was Calah Holman, Demel, Brynn Lepien, and Josie Phelps.  The 200 yard freestyle relay included Lepien, Phelps, Bonafe, and McGee.  The 400 yard freestyle relay consisted of McGee, Phelps, Demel and Bonafe.  There were 18 additional personal best times throughout the meet.   Our freshmen are getting stronger with each race and contributing to the team success.  Ionia's record is now 2-1 in nonconference play.  Ionia will host Thornapple-Kellog/Delton-Kellogg/Hastings on Tuesday, August 31 at 6:00 p.m.
