Ionia traveled to Holt this evening for the first dual meet of the season.  The girls lost with a final score of 68-117.  In spite of the tough loss, Ionia took first place in 7 out of 12 events.  Madeline McGee got first in the 200 individual medley and the 100 yard freestyle.  Maelys Bonafe got first in the 200 freestyle and the 100 yard backstroke.  Anouk Demel raced hard to the finish and got first in the 100 yard butterfly.  The relay team of McGee, Bonafe, Demel and Brynn Lepien got first in both the 200 yard medley relay and the 400 yard freestyle relay.  Calah Holman also raced hard and got a personal best time by more than 7 seconds!  Teammates Sage Brown, Riley Browne, Sydney Estep and Makenna Waterman all had personal best times.  We have a very young team, and the meet was a good learning experience for everyone.  Ionia will host Corunna and Alma in our first home meet next Thursday, August 26 at 6 p.m.
