Boys Swimming Falls to GR Union

UNION HIGH SCHOOL: 100
Thursday night the Ionia Boys Varsity Swimming and Diving team went up against the D1 Grand Rapids Union Varsity Boys team at Ionia. Ionia lost to the overwhelming numbers of Grand Rapids Union 55 to 100 but did manage to take away some impressive placings.
- Carl Goeckel placed second in the 100-yard butterfly and was only off 0.49 seconds from the MHSAA qualifying time.
- Bradin Bushee finished 2nd in the 500-yard freestyle.
- The team of Jaxxon Thelen, Carliegh Thompson, Christian Martinez, and Nick Richey took 3rd in the 200-yard medley relay.
- Chrisian Martinez also placed 3rd in the 50-yard freestyle.
- Carliegh Thompson had our highest diving score with a total of 92.7.
The swim team will be back in action next Thursday as they travel to Lansing to take on the Waverly Warriors.
