Wednesday night the Ionia swim team went against the much larger team of Ovid-Elsie.  With a third of the team missing the remaining members defeated Ovid-Elsie 131 to 120.  There were a lot of impressive finishes by Ionia.  The highest point earners for Ionia were Carl Goeckel and Christian Martinez both with 21 points fallowed by Bodey Brownell with 19 points. In the 11 events Ionia had a total of 10 first place finishes 3 second place finishes and 3 third place finishes. Ionia took first place in all three relays:

• 200-yard medley relay by the team of Carleigh Thompson, Christian Martinez, Carl Goeckel, and Bodey Brownell
• 200-yard freestyle relay team of Christian Martinez, Hannah Luttman, Talon Thompson, and Bodey Brownell
• 400-yard freestyle relay team of Carl Goeckel, Raygan Goodsell, Jaxon Thelen, and Talon Thompson

Ionia’s individual event places and personal records (PRs) were:

• 200-yard freestyle 1^st Raygan Goodsell (PR), 2^nd Talon Thompson

• 200-yard IM 1^st Carl Goeckel
• 50-yard freestyle 1^st Christian Martinez 2^nd Bodey Brownell (PR)
• 100-yard butterfly 1^st Carl Goeckel
• 100-yard freestyle 1^st Bodey Brownell 3^rd Talon Thompson (PR)
• 500-yard freestyle 3^rd Raygan Goodsell
• 100-yard backstroke 1^st Jaxxon Thelen, 2^nd Carleigh Thompson, 3^rd Hannah Luttman
• 100-yard breaststroke 1^st Christian Martinez

This was a great meet for the Ionia swim team, they knew that they would need to step up to meet the challenge of having less swimmers and they showed up to swim!
