On Saturday the Ionia Swimming and Diving Team competed in the Mason Invitational.  Working through several members of the team being out due to illness Ionia finished 6^th out of 8 teams.  All the Ionia athletes that were able to swim brought home metals bringing home a a total of 24 metals.  Top point earners for Ionia were Carl Goeckel with 53.5 points, Carleigh Thompson with 42 points, and Christian Martinez with 39 points.  Carliegh brought home a first place finish in synchronized diving and Carl placed first in the 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly.  Ionia swimmers also had several PRs:

• Tristan Asher dropped 3 seconds of his 200-yard freestyle and 5.5 seconds off his 500-yard freestyle
• Copper Highlen dropped 3.5 seconds off his 200-yard IM
• Gabe Holman dropped 6 seconds off his 200-yard IM and 3 seconds off his 100-yard backstroke
• Hannah Luttman dropped 5.5 seconds off her 100-yard backstroke
• Christian Martinez dropped 1 second off his 50-yard freestyle and .5 a second off his 100 yard breaststroke
• Talon Thompson dropped 4.5 seconds off his 100-yard freestyle
• Xander Towery dropped 2 seconds off his 50-yard freestyle

Ionia’s next competition will be away at Ovid-Elsie on Wednesday where we will be looking forward to more great races and PRs.
