Ionia Boys Varsity Swim took one more step toward the CAAC area League Meet with several personal best times.  Carl Goeckel took first in the 200 IM with a second best time of 2:16.90; he also took first in the 100 yard butterfly even with a personal best time of 58.40 earning him a MISCA cut time.  Carl also led the 200 and 400 yard freestyle relay events swimming to a person best 100 yard free time of 51.96.  Estin Lyons swam to a personal best time of 28.75 and a first place finish in the 50 yard freestyle; he took second in the 100 yard freestyle event with a personal best time of 1:07.62.  Christian Martinez dropped tim ein his 50 yard freestyle event with a time of 30.28 and was a member of the second place 200 yard freestyle relay team of Goeckel, Lyons, Martinez and Chris Brown. Brendin Bushee placed first in the 500 yard freestyle event with a second personal best time of 7:04.56; he also took third in the 200 yard free.  Nick Richey placed third in the IM event with a time of 2:55.00 and second in the breast stroke event with a time of 1:28.44.  Yadiel Villados earned a personal best time of 36.72 in the 50 yard freestyle and 5th in the 100 yard freestyle wth a time of 1:28.52.  Gabe Holman dropped time in his 5th place finish in the 200 yard freestyle with a personal best time of 3:07.34; he placed third in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 1:45.11.  The 400 yard freestyle relay team of Goeckel, Brown, Lyons and Richey placed first with a season best time of 4:21.39.

"Although we did not come out victorious this evening, the swimmers are meeting many personal goals as we keep our focus on the League Meet.  Carl Goeckel's MISCA qualifying time is an extra boost not only for himself, but for his team mates who have worked hard to push him to to go fast while they push themselves for faster times.  We have some areas to improve which will be our motivation for each dual meet and invitational that we attend" stated Head Coach Laura Fish.  The Bulldogs are 0-4 in league meets and 0-5 overall.  The Swimming Bulldogs will travel to Hastings on Saturday January 14 for the TK Hasting Inviataional and  Haslett High School on Thursday, January 19. The Bulldogs look forward to their Ionia Community Awareness meet against the Bulldog of Mason High School on Thursday, January 26.
