Ionia competed in the CAAC Championships this weekend. Our JV guys traveled to Waverly Friday night, and then our varsity boys and girls went to Mason today. The CAAC tournament had 21 schools competing today bringing some of the best wrestlers in the state to one gym. Ionia finished the best we have done in a long time since it was combined into one big tournament. Today Ionia finished 10th out of 21 schools and had 7 medalists.

Ionia had 2 Champions today. Freshman Chad Campbell at 113 lbs went 3-0 taking first place including getting a 7-0 win in the semi finals over an opponent we lost to earlier in the year from Grand Ledge. Sadie Roberts also went undefeated today going 2-0 both wins by fall. bringing home a 1st Place Medal.

Senior Carter Castillo went 3-1 today taking 3rd place at 138 lbs. Carter had a big win in overtime over a ranked Olivet wrestler we lost to earlier in the year. 

Ionia had 3 wrestlers place 5th today. Ricky Charon went 3-1 at 106lbs, Hunter Barker went 4-1 at 150 lbs, and Sarah Schafer went 3-2. Jackson Stoakes went 2-2 on the day placing 6th.

Aaron Wolthuis went 2-3 on the day at 120lbs finishing the day in 8th place.

Levi Scheid wrestled Friday night in Waverly and ended up taking 4th place at 132 lbs going 4-2 on the night. 

Your Bulldogs will be back on the mat this Wednesday for the MHSAA team district match up. Ionia will wrestle Forest Hills Central in the first round. Winner will then move on to wrestle Lowell in the District championship.
