The Ionia boys’ cross country team made the trip over to Saranac to race on their hilly course at the Saranac Invitational on Wednesday. The Bulldogs competed in the Division 1 and 2 race and finished in 9th place out of 14 teams. There were 117 young men in the varsity race. Leading the way for the Bulldogs was junior Jacob Montgomery who finished 2nd in 17:06. He was followed by teammates Ellis Yokom in 34th, Tyson Evans in 51st, Lincoln Denis in 68th, and Alex Bushee in 70th. Jaxxon Thelen completed his first high school 5k and was the sixth Bulldog across the line in 21:13. Dalles Bailiff was the top Bulldog in the JV race, finishing 18th out of 85 in a time of 21:37. He was followed closely by Tony Shattuck in 37th place at 22:47. Ionia will head back to practice to prepare for Wednesday’s Marauder Invite at Uncle John’s Cider Mill.
