The Ionia Boys’ Cross Country team kicked off their season at the Cougar 2-Mile hosted by Lansing Catholic at St. Francis Retreat Center in DeWitt. The runners were split into two races seeded by expected time so there were no team scores. The boys competed well and showed a lot of grit by moving up several spots during the second half of the race. Freshman Jaxxon Thelen led the way in the slower heat, finishing 15th out of 82 runners in 13:09 and earning a medal in his first high school race. Junior Jacob Montgomery was the top Bulldog in the faster heat, cruising to a 4th place finish out of 58 runners in 10:46. The Bulldogs will return to action on Wednesday when they travel to the Saranac Invitational.
