The Ionia Boys’ Cross Country team put a capstone on their outstanding season at the MHSAA D2 State Finals at Michigan International Speedway. While they fell a little short of their goals, they still finished 19th out of 29 teams in the meet and 152 D2 teams overall. Ionia was led by senior Josiah Magley who finished 58th in 16:42. Senior Heath LaPointe was right behind him in 83rd place with a time of 16:57. The seniors were followed by sophomores Jacob Montgomery and Ellis Yokom who placed 159th in 17:37 and 17th in 17:42 respectively. Senior Andrew Gerdes completed the scoring placing 191st in 17:55. Riley Husted competed in his second state final, finishing 237th in 18:43. Teammate Tyson Evans placed 259th in 19:33. The Bulldogs will add academic accolades to their accomplishments later this week when the academic all-state awards are announced.
