The Ionia boys’ cross country team toed the line against 37 other teams at the Greater Lansing Championships at Ledge Meadows Golf Club in Grand Ledge on Saturday.  The Bulldogs ran hard and just missed a top-5 finish, falling 13 points short of D3 third-ranked St. Louis.  Ionia had two top-30 finishers, out of a field of 233 runners, in seniors Josiah Magely who placed 17th in 16:57 and Heath LaPointe who placed 29th in 17:15.  The pair was followed by sophomores Jacob Montgomery, who crossed the finish in 40th place in 17:41, and Ellis Yokom, who placed 43rd in a personal-record time of 17:42.  Senior Andrew Gerdes rounded out the scoring five for Ionia by placing 66th in 18:16.  The Bulldogs will return to action on Thursday when they compete in the final CAAC White league jamboree at Portland.  The Bulldogs are currently in 1st place after winning the first two jamborees of the season.  They will look to claim the outright crown and solidify all-league awards for several individuals.
