The Ionia Boys’ Cross Country team challenged the front runners at the Shepherd Blue Jay Invitational on Saturday.  The Bulldogs narrowly missed bringing home a trophy and finished 3rd, one point behind runner-up Flint Powers Catholic and 15 behind St. Johns.  The entire scoring top-5 placed in the top 30 to earn individual medals.  Josiah Magley was the top finisher for the Bulldogs, finishing 3rd out of 107 boys in 16:25.  Heath LaPointe was right behind him in 7th place in 17:08. Jacob Montgomery finished 17th in 17:36.  Andrew Gerdes placed 23rd in 18:00 and Ellis Yokom ran a personal-record time of 18:06 to secure 27th place.  In addition, Alex Bushee finished 29th of 133 boys in the junior varsity race to medal.  The Bulldogs will look to build on their success from the first CAAC White jamboree when they travel to the St. Francis Retreat Center for their second jamboree on Tuesday.
