The Ionia Boys’ Cross Country team had a strong showing on the wooded trails of Central Montcalm’s cross country course on Saturday with 9 athletes medaling.  There were no team scores as athletes competed in separate races based on their grade in school.  Pushing the pace for the Bulldogs was birthday boy Josiah Magley who won the senior race and clocked the top overall time of all competitors on the day, 17:04. He was followed closely by fellow senior Heath LaPointe, the 2nd-place senior with a time of 17:38.  Sophomore Jacob Montgomery also picked up a 2nd-place finish with a time of 18:03.  Senior Andrew Gerdes ran 18:41 which was good for 6th place.  Sophomore Ellis Yokom was 10th in his race with a time of 19:34.  Tyson Evans was just behind him placing 15th in 19:57.  Senior Xander Lange ran 19:59 to finish 11th. Senior Riley Husted finished 14th in 20:43.  Senior Demetri Davis clocked 20:55 for a 15th-place finish.

The Bulldogs will step back from racing this week to train, with their focus on their upcoming CAAC White Jamboree on September 21 at Burchfield Park in Eaton Rapids.
