The Ionia Bulldogs 8th grade volleyball teams took on their rivals the Portland Raiders at home tonight. Knowing it would be a competition right from the start, Ionia started off with 4 solid serves from Brooklyn Castillo pushing the Dawgs to an early lead. Alissa Castillo put down 2 solid kills while Jordyn Cavagnaro added 1. The game was neck and neck and it came down to the final few serves. Aubreana Velasquez stepped up to the service line and nailed 3 aces, sending the Lady Dawgs to victory! Ionia defeated Portland 25-20. 

The Bulldogs were fired up heading into the second set and Brooklyn Castillo let it show. She served 20 points in a row, 11 of which were aces giving Ionia a huge lead over the Raiders. Avery Rowley added 4 service points and 1 ace and the Dawgs took the victory 25-1. 

Entering the third and final set, Ionia continued to serve strong and play aggressively at the net. Faith Rood had a kill and a great assist. Danica Cummings added 2 service points. Jersey Howorth had a kill as well. The Bulldogs played well as a team tonight and got the job done. They communicated well and had fun! Ionia defeated Portland 15-6.
