The Ionia 8th Grade teams traveled to Lakewood tonight for their season opener. The B team Bulldogs struggled to gain momentum and fell short in the first set 14-25. Mckenna O'Connor put an ace on the board and had good communication on the court. Brooklynn Nash and Jordyn Ciganick each added another 2 aces. Ionia came together between sets and pushed themselves harder for round two, but still fell just short of the win ending at 17-25. Skye Currigan put down 3 aces and a kill as well as a great dig. Ryley Helmes added 2 aces in the second set and another in the 3rd. Melanie White hustled on the court and Aizlin Barna had several nice serve receive passes. The Bulldogs were still hungry for a win on the night and came out fighting, but ended up just shy of a victory in the final set ending with an 11-15 defeat.
