The Ionia 8th Grade Volleyball team hosted Portland in tonight's final match of the season. Having competed against the Raiders already this season, Ionia knew it would be a battle to the end and that every point would was crucial. Cora Nummer was our best server behind the line tonight and earned the team a total of 12 aces and several additional service points. Brooklynn Burhans hustled in the front row and had some critical plays that gave us the edge we needed. Marley Piselli took charge and showed great leadership on the floor tonight, playing aggressively on defense and covering the floor well. Despite the Bulldogs' efforts, Portland took the first set in a close match, 23-25. Ready for set two, Ionia came out ready to work and it paid off in the end. Chloe Zander and Aubrei Nash were smart players from the front and brought positive energy to the floor. Danica White was a supportive teammate and did her job tonight on defense and as a front row blocker. Peighton Cary served well and had several awesome digs. Bela Delgado hustled on the court and had a great attitude while adding several nice assists. Their combination of efforts led the Dawgs to a second set win over the Raiders finishing at 25-11. Tied 1-1, it all came down to the last set. Emma Patterson and Lexi Fugitt were energetic and did their part as helpful hitters while also covering their teammates. Kiara Goodsell was a solid back-row player all throughout the evening and hardly let anything get past her.  Ionia won the final set of the season 15-8. Each member of the 8th Grade B team played a part in tonight's 2-1 victory over the Raiders and I could not be prouder as a coach! I am excited to see where this team's energy and efforts will take them in the future! It's been a wonderful and successful season! The B team finished with a 15-15 overall record.
