IONIA- The Bulldogs (6-3, 4-3) defeated Lakewood 28-14 for the 6th straight for the first time in school history. Nolan Hart started the scoring for Ionia by returning a Lakewood interception for a TD, 50 seconds into the game to make it 7-0. Ionia again scored on a Nolan Hart 1 yard run to make the score 15-0. Lakewood scored to end the first half to make the score 15-7. Ionia scored on again on a Hart score that was aided by a Parker Seidelman 29 yard catch to make the score 22-7. Lakewood ran the kickoff back to make the score 22-14. Ionia then scored again to make the score 28-14 on another Hart TD run, this one from 26 yards and aided by huge blocks from Braylon Granger and Henry Castle. Ionia got a stop and was able to run the clock out. Hart finished with 136 yards rushing and 101 yards passing. Spencer Tooker added 90 yards rushing and 51 yards receiving. Wyatt Erridge led Ionia with 8 tackles and Henry Castle added a sack.
Ionia will be in the MHSAA playoffs for the third time in four years. Ionia will find out their opponent on 4:30 on Sunday on Bally Sports.
