ST. JOHNS- Ionia improved to 5-3 and took a huge step towards qualifying for the playoffs with a 16-13 win over St. Johns. Ionia started the scoring with a 4th and Goal throw from Nolan Hart to Spencer Tooker. Parker Seidelman’s kick made it 7-0. St. Johns would score to make the halftime score 7-6. Ionia stopped St. Johns on a 4th down to open the second half. Ionia then went down and Tooker capped the drive with a 7 yard run to put Ionia up 13-7. The drive was aided by a 50 yard reception by Tristian Ciganick from Hart on 3rd and 9. Ionia got another stop to get the ball back again. Ionia held St. Johns to 80 yards rushing total. Parker Seidelman and Tristian Ciganick led the Bulldogs with 5 tackles a piece. Ionia moved the ball and Seidelman made a 33 yards field goal to put Ionia up 16-6. St. Johns was able to score on a huge play to cut the lead to 16-13 with four minutes to go. Ionia was able to grind out two first downs and end the game offensively to secure the victory. Nolan Hart finished the game 11 for 15 for 191 yards in what was his best performance of the season. Ciganick finished with 3 receptions for 91 yards and Tooker finished with 7 receptions for 88 yards and two touchdowns. Ionia hosts Lakewood next Friday at 7:00 on Senior night.
