The Ionia Varsity Volleyball team traveled to Ovid-Elsie tonight for a non-conference match up. The Bulldogs came out strong, quickly taking the lead behind tough serves. Consistent play all around led to great connections at the net to propel the Bulldogs to 25-11 finishes in the first 2 sets. Scrappy play and relentless effort at the net continued Ionia's run and the Varsity team completed the sweep for all levels tonight! Rajalyaj Esquivel had a great night at the net offensively leading with 9 kills, while Drew Wachowski and Tess Griffith added 7 each. Grace Droste and Mikaiah White both dished out 10 assists to keep the offense swinging. The defensive effort was well balanced tonight with Tess Griffith keeping 7 balls in play while Kate Brown and Londyn Brown each tallied 5 digs. Emma White, Julia Stewart, Esquivel and Griffith all had a block defensively at the net. The Bulldogs had an outstanding night behind the service line with a team total 20 aces. Wachowski led with 7 and Griffith added 6. Ionia Varsity is now 16-4-2 overall. Join us back on our home court Tuesday as we honor our incredible Senior leaders and take on LCC .
