The Bulldogs were back in action at Mason for a tournament today. The team started the day strong and found their groove early on to finish 1st in both rounds of pool play with a record of 3 - 0 - 1. A combination of strong defense and precision offense was key today as the girls worked seamlessly as a team to finish 1st place overall out of 9 teams. The Bulldogs continued their run with a first round win in bracket play against host team Mason. In the semi-final match Ionia struggled to find their flow after the break. Even though they closed the gap several times, they eventually lost to Sturgis, finishing 3rd for the day. The offensive efforts were led today by Tess Griffith with 54 kills while Drew Wachowski added 28. Mikaiah White put up 78 assists for the day. Behind the service line Wachowski continuously kept teams out of system with 7 service aces on 62 serves with only one error. Rajalyaj Esquivel added 6 aces. On defense Londyn Brown once again made it difficult for teams to score points by keeping rallies alive with 70 digs, leading to many points for Ionia. Griffith added 36 digs and Wachowski had 24. At the net defensively Esquivel and Emma White both had 5 blocks. Ionia moves to 12-3-2 on the season and is on the road again Tuesday, traveling to Charlotte for another conference match.
