The Ionia Varsity Volleyball team traveled to Perry today for an invitational. The Bulldogs started strong, finishing pool play with a 3-0-1 record and advancing to the Gold Bracket in 4th place out of 15 teams. Ionia continued their strong play in the quarter finals, beating Laingsburg in 2 sets. In the semi-finals game the Bulldogs played hard but came up short, losing in 2 sets. Defense was a key to the success the team had today. Londyn Brown led the effort with 50 digs on the day. Rajalyaj Esquivel led defensively at the net with 7 blocks. The offensive power made a difference in several of the games today. Tess Griffith led the effort with 39 kills and Esquivel added 27. Mikaiah White dished up 37 assists for hitters, while Grace Droste added another 36. Behind the line Griffith served up 11 aces on 46 serves, while Drew Wachowski added 6 on 43 serves.
