The Ionia Varsity Volleyball team traveled to St. Johns today for a 16 team tournament. The Bulldogs started the day strong with a 2-0 win vs Charlotte to open pool play. Next they got off to a strong start against Pewamo-Westphalia winning the first set 25-15, before battling back and forth but eventually dropping the second set 22-25. In the final match of pool play, Ionia worked hard but couldn't get the edge and lost to Grand Ledge. The Bulldogs moved on to the Silver Bracket where they won the first match against Holt. Ionia faced Portland in the semi-final round and came up just short losing in two to end the day.

The offensive attack was led by Tess Griffith with 35 kills while Danika Fyan added 25. Kassidy Casillas had 67 assists and led with 8 aces. GraceMarie Martinez also served up 5 aces. The defensive effort was led by Paige Castillo with 24 digs, and Martinez kept 12 in play. At the net, Fyan put up a big front with 13 blocks and Griffith stopped 3. The Bulldogs move to 22-5-1 overall. Ionia will be back in action on Tuesday in Charlotte.
