LANSING CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL: 0

It's always a battle when we play Lansing Catholic, they are always a technically sound team. For many seasons they seemed to have our number but the last few matches between us, we have shown that we are up to the challenge. Tonight we were unsure how the boys would cope with playing this contest while missing a couple of key players through injury. But We were confident that the players could find that long sought after win. Especially given the way the team has grown throughout the season.

Tonight, Lansing Catholic was able to maintain a greater share of the ball possession with their technical play. We knew we would have to be patient and play with a "bend but don't break" approach while trying to catch them on the counter attack. With a lot of back and forth play there was plenty of excitement without a goal until late in the second half with under 20 minutes to play. Ionia won a free-kick deep in the LC defensive zone. Derrick Santana stepped up to the ball and saw his effort drop in over the keeper into the corner of the goal. That was the goal we needed to ease the nerves. But then play restarted and LC started really pushing for the equalizer. With around five minutes remaining, in the attacking third, Gage Flanner pulled a move on his defender to get inside of him and then unleashed a shot from 25-yards out, over the keeper and into the net. That was the exclamation point on an emphatic win that all the players can surely be proud of.

Shout out to Carter Castillo who once again was the gatekeeper for our hard working defense.

Goals:
Derrick Santana - 1 - Opened the scoring with that crucial first goal of the game.
