It was a heart-breaker tonight. Lansing Catholic (LC) got the first goal on a defensive miscue but the guys shook it off, kept their heads up and kept battling. Ionia answered back a while later with as Zane Sarka rifled a shot that the keeper just saved onto the crossbar and over. Late in the first half our persistence paid off and we we scored with a beautiful thru ball by Tony Velasco to Marco Riesco De Castro who rounded the leftback and lasered the ball into the back of the net to tie the game at 1s. As the first half came to an end, the team knew that this was a game up for grabs and we just needed to make some adjustments and keep our energy levels up.

The second half was a lot like the first half, back and forth until we started wearing down just a bit. LC took advantage of our dip in focus and worked in two more goals to go up 3-1. The boys did not give up though and continued to work the ball into the attacking third to create some dangerous opportunities. Finally Sarka broke in with a run through the defense and put the ball past the keeper into the net. 3-2. The guys could sense a way back into the game and kept pushing to make things happen. But, LC took advantage of another miscue and put the game out of reach at 4-2. The score didn't reflect the effort put forth by all of the players, but they should be pleased with the way that they played tonight.

Next game is 6:00 pm Thursday, Sept. 16, at home vs Bath for the Purple game.
