This was a match that we were looking forward to. We felt we had a good chance to compete in this game and we really wanted to have a strong performance. It was a spirited game with a lot of good play of back and forth where St. Johns had just a bit more possession but only just. The difference in the game came off of an early miscue that allowed St. Johns to get the lone tally of the game.
In the closing minutes of the game Ionia added a sense of urgency to their play trying to push for the equalizer. We thought we had that chance as Devon Reyes was taken down inside the 18 yard box but appeals for a penalty were turned away and the game ended in a hard fought 1-0 loss.

Next game is 5:30 pm Tuesday, Sept. 7, away at Portland.
