Ionia had an exciting game tonight against Lakewood. Ionia had a couple of firsts tonight. Tonight saw the first start in goal for sophomore Lance Atkinson. He handled the pressure with aplomb and had a good match. The first half saw an even exchange of goals between the two teams. For Ionia's first, Zane Sarka made a move to create space on the wing and land a cross for Devon Reyes who made sure it was deposited into the goal. That tied the score at one. Later in the first half as we were down 2-1, sophomore Garrett Lee dribbled the ball on the wing from near center field and weaved his way into the attacking zone. After some fancy ball work to the side of goal he rounded a shot past the outstretched hands of the keeper and into the side netting. 2-2. That would be Lee's first career high school goal. That's how the half ended.

In the second half Lakewood scored about 5 minutes into the second half and from there the dam broke and Lakewood went on to win the game.
