This match was nothing if not exciting. It was a game that was once again closer than the score would indicate. Waverly got off to an early lead. Their speedy attacker broke around the side of our defense and drove quick strike the keeper could do nothing about. As the game wore on Ionia began to make plays and were able to generate sustained pressure on Waverly's defense until they finally broke through with a defense splitting pass by Devon Reyes for Zane Sarka to run on to. Sarka capped it off by rounding the goalkeeper to push the ball into the goal for the first goal of his high school career while Reyes collected the assist. As the game continued both teams had opportunities but in the end Waverly were better able to capitalize on their chances.
