Ionia Girls wrestling team traveled to Fowlerville Friday night to compete in the Gladiatrix individual tournament. Eleanor Hyland and Sarah Schafer both had full tough brackets. Ella unfortunately went 0-2 on the night but wrestled very tough, Ella is getting better every single time she goes on the mat and it is really fun to watch and we are all excited to continue to watch her grow in this sport. Sarah Schafer had a great night going 2-1 and bringing home a 2nd place medal. Sarah had a tough bracket today having 5 ranked wrestlers in her weight class and 3 of them on her side of the bracket. In the quarter final round Sarah wrestled a girl from Waverly where we earned 3 takedowns before pinning her in the beginning of the second period. In the Semi Finals we wrestled a familiar opponent, a girl from Owosso who we lost to earlier this year and is currently ranked 5th in the state where we wrestled a super gritty and tough match winning by decision 1-0 . Then in the final Sarah lost to the #4 ranked wrestler in the state from Bloomfield Hills. Our Girls team will be back in the mat next week were we travel to Olivet on wednesday to compete in the CAAC duals then Friday we travel to East Lansing for another individual tournament
