The Ionia Girls wrestling team was in action tonight at Dewitt. We had two wrestlers compete today Elenor Hyland at 135 lbs and Sarah Schafer at 190lbs. Elenor had two great matches that unfortunately both ended in a loss. She has shown a ton of growth so far this season, and wrestled her best matches of the year today. Elenor was drawn into to wrestle the number one seed in her bracket to start the day wrestling a tied match until late in the 2nd period. Then in the next round she was winning her match when unfortunately got caught in a head lock.

Sarah Schafer had another great tournament where she went 2-1 making it into the finals. In the first round Sarah pinned her opponent in the first period. In the semi-finals she wrestled a tough girl from Lowell where we won a gritty match 3-0. In the finals, we faced an opponent from Owosso who is currently ranked 6th in the state and the number 1 seed at the tournament. Sarah wrestled a very tough match where she was winning 4-0 with 30 seconds left, but we got thrown in a head lock and lost 7-4 in the finals; Sarah finished 2nd place. Our girls will be back on the mat next Friday at Fowlerville.
