Friday night Ionia's girls wrestling team traveled to Ovid Elsie. Sarah Schafer was our only wrestler this evening. Unfortunately Sarah came just 1 match short of earning a medal. This was definitely one of the toughest tournaments of the year for us. In the quarterfinals Sarah wrestled a familiar opponent from Owosso who is currently ranked 5th in the state where Sarah won that match 9-5! In the Semi finals Sarah had to wrestle a girl from Belding who was a 2x state champion a weight class above. Sarah lost that bout by pin fall. In the consultation semifinals we wrested an opponent from St. Louis. We wrestled a very tough match that went into ultimate tie breaker where we came up just short giving up a reversal in the last few seconds of the match. Our girls will be back in action next Saturday at Holt for the CAAC conference tournament.
