Girls Varsity Volleyball falls to Lakewood in Districts

The Varsity Volleyball team traveled to Grand Rapids Christian tonight to take on Lakewood in the opening round of Districts. The Bulldogs came out aggressive but struggled to keep their pace, dropping the first set. The Bulldogs strung together some tough play throughout the next two sets, but ultimately lost in three. Alexias Daugherty led the defensive efforts with 13 digs while Grace Droste added 8. Layla Delnay had 2 blocks and Tessa Lemke & Grace Droste added 1. Logan Thomas led the offensive efforts with 6 kills while Delnay, Droste & Ireland Brown all had 2 each. Droste put up 8 assists and led behind the service line with 2 aces while Thomas and Lemke each dropped 1 in. The Bulldgos end the season 22-18-2. Good work Bulldogs and thank you seniors!

The Varsity Volleyball team hosted a quad tonight for their final home match-up. The team came out strong in their first match against Belding, winning in 2 sets. Next, they kept the momentum with a first set win over Hastings but struggled to finish the match, eventually dropping it in a close 3 sets. After taking a set to find their footing, the Bulldogs were able to rally out against the Shamrocks and beat Portland St Pat's in 3 set to finish the night 2-1. The defensive efforts kept the Bulldogs in a strong position tonight led by Alexias Daugherty with 48 digs while Logan Thomas had 35. At the net, Layla Delnay and Grace Droste both had 4 blocks. The offensive efforts were led by Thomas with 29 kills while Ireland Brown put down 17. Droste kept the offense swinging with 67 assists. Behind the line, Molly Waterman dropped in 8 aces while Lilly Reams, Droste & Thomas all added 3. The Bulldogs are now 22-17-2 at the conclusion of regular season play. The Ionia Varsity Volleyball team travels to Grand Rapids Christian on Monday for the opening round of districts against Lakewood. Good work Bulldogs!

The Ionia Varsity Volleyball team traveled to Portland for their last conference match-up. The Bulldogs struggled to find consistency and dropped their first 2 sets. They rallied back to take the third but ultimately dropped the match in 4. Logan Thomas led the offensive efforts tonight with 13 kills while Grace Droste added 9. Droste paced the offense with 27 assists. Thomas also led behind the service line with 3 aces while Lilly Reams dropped in 2. Lexi Daugherty led the defense with 16 digs while Thomas kept 14 in play. At the net Emma White had 4 blocks and Droste had 3. The Bulldogs fall to 20-16-2 and 4-3 in the conference. They are back at home for the final time this season on Thursday.

The Varsity Volleyball team hosted their home tournament today. The Bulldogs got out to a strong start, connecting well consistently and finished 1st in their pool. The Bulldogs started bracket play against Lansing Eastern with that same consistency and won in straight sets. After a slow start in semis, the Bulldogs rallied back to take set 2, but ended up dropping the match in 3 to Sacred Heart. The Bulldog's offense was led by Grace Droste with 30 kills, while Logan Thomas added 22. Droste also paced the offense with 75 assists. From the service line Droste led with 17, while Thomas dropped in another 7. The defensive effort was led all day by Lexi Daugherty with 66, while Thomas kept another 32 in play. At the net Droste had 3 blocks and Layla Delany & Tessa Lemke each had one. The Bulldogs are now 20-15-2. Ionia finishes conference play at Portland on Tuesday. Good work Bulldogs!
Girls Varsity Volleyball Defeats Eaton Rapids on Senior Night

The Varsity Volleyball team honored their Seniors tonight at their last regular season conference home match tonight against Eaton Rapids. Ionia got off to a bit of a slow start in the first set and were unable to rally back. However, they came out stronger in the next set and battled to close it out. When Ionia stepped back on the court for the third set they were confident, swinging strong, and never let up quickly closing out the match in four. Defense rallied the night working hard to allow the team to consistently put the ball away. Alexias Daugherty stepped up once again as libero and led the team with 22 digs while Logan Thomas added 18. At the net, Senior Emma White had 2 blocks while Ireland Brown and Thomas stopped 2 more each. The offensive effort was across the net tonight with Grace Droste and Thomas both putting down 11 kills while White added another 9. Droste threw up a season high 31 assists tonight. Behind the service line Seniors Lilly Reams and White both dropped in 3 aces while Molly Waterman chipped in another 3. Ionia moves to 17-14-1 on the season and 4-2 in the conference. The Bulldogs host a home tournament this Saturday. Great work Bulldogs!
Ionia Varsity Volleyball at Cedar Springs Tri

The Ionia Varsity Volleyball lost 2 tough matches at the Cedar Springs Tri tonight. After a slow start against the host Red Hawks, the Bulldogs bounced back to take the first set against Shelby. However they struggled to close out the match and lost in 3. The defensive effort was led by Logan Thomas with 27 digs while Alexias Daugherty kept another 24 in play. At the net Delnay and White both had 2 blocks. On offense Thomas put away 9 kills and Layla Delnay added another 8. Grace Droste worked hard to keep the offense in system with 28 assists. Molly Waterman led the attack behind the service line with 4 aces and Thomas dropped in another 3. The Bulldogs fall to 16-14-1 on the season. They will be back on their home court for Senior Night on Tuesday against Eaton Rapids. Come pack the stands and cheer them on as we thank our seniors for their leadership and efforts through their careers!

The Varsity Volleyball team traveled to Ionia tonight to take on Lakewood in a CAAC match up. The Bulldogs got off to a slow start before rallying back. The score went back and forth in the 2nd set but Ionia was unable to close it out. The Bulldogs ended up dropping the match in 3. The offensive efforts were led by big swings from Logan Thomas who finished the match with 8 kills while Grace Droste added 3. Droste also had 9 assists on the night and led from the service line with 3 aces. Ireland Brown dropped in another 2 aces. The defensive efforts were led by Alexias Daugherty with 8 digs while Kate Brown kept 7 in play. At the net Layla Delnay had 1 solo block. The Bulldogs are now 16-12-1 and 3-2 in the conference. Next up they travel to Cedar Springs for a tri Thursday.

The Varsity Volleyball team traveled to St Johns tournament today where they squared off with some strong competition. The Bulldogs went 2-2 in pool play before moving into the Gold bracket. They were back and forth with DeWitt in the first round of bracket play but came up just short. Defense had a great day led by Kate Brown with 32 digs while Logan Thomas added 26. At the net Grace Droste and Layla Delnay both had 4 blocks. The offensive efforts were led by Thomas with 17 kills while Droste put down 14. Droste also paced the offense with 44 assists. Behind the service line Thomas dropped in 10 aces while Droste and Lilly Reams both had 6. Good work Bulldogs!

The Ionia Volleyball team was back on their home court tonight against Lansing Catholic.The Bulldogs battled out in each set pushed by a strong defensive effort but came up just short dropping the match. Kate Brown had a great night on the back line with 25 digs while Grace Droste kept 14 in play. At the net Emma White had a season high 4 blocks while Layla Delnay added 2. The offensive drive was led by Logan Thomas with 9 kills while Emma White put away 5. Droste dished out 18 assists to keep the offense going. Behind the service line Droste and Thomas both had 1 ace. The Bulldogs are now 14-8-1 and 3-1 in the CAAC White. Good work Bulldogs!

The Ionia volleyball program hosted youth night tonight for their home match against Chesaning Union. In front of a great crowd the teams had a program wide sweep. The Varsity team came out focused and played strong through the entire match. It was a balanced effort on offense and defense tonight to put the game away. Logan Thomas led the offensive effort with 10 kills while Ireland Brown and Grace Droste both put down 6. Droste also paced the strong offensive effort tonight with 23 assists. Behind the service line Alexias Daugherty dropped in 5 aces and Lilly Reams added 4. Daugherty led the defensive efforts on the night in a new role as libero with 20 digs while Thomas and Droste both kept 14 in play. At the net, Emma White and Droste both had 1 solo block. The Bulldogs are now 14-7-1 overall and will be back on their home court next Tuesday for a league match up against Lansing Catholic. Great work Bulldogs!

The Ionia Varsity Volleyball team traveled to Lansing Sexton tonight and swept the host J Dubbs in 3. The Bulldogs got out to a strong start and kept the pace through the match. The offensive effort tonight was led by Layla Delnay and Logan Thomas with 7 kills each. Grace Droste kept the offense swinging with 13 assists. The Bulldogs had a strong night behind the service line led by Molly Waterman with 9 aces and Droste addes another 7. The defense was led by Alexias Daugherty and Waterman with 3 digs each. At the net White, Delnay and Droste all had 1 block. The Bulldogs move to 13-7-1 and 3-0 in the conference. Ionia is back at home on Thursday. Good work Bulldogs!

The Varisty Volleyball team traveled to Charlotte today for another league match up. The Bulldogs came out quick and worked together to put the first set away. A few miscues and errors led to the team dropping the 3rd set before they battled back to finish in 4. The defensive effort kept the Bulldogs in the game tonight. Kate Brown led the efforts with 38 digs while Logan Thomas and Grace Droste both kept 20 in play. Emma White and Layla Delnay both had 2 blocks at the net. On offense Logan Thomas led the way with 9 kills while Emma White added 6. Droste worked to dish out 22 assists. K. Brown, Molly Waterman and Droste all had 2 aces on the night. The Bulldogs are now 12-7-1 and 2-0 in the conference. Next Tuesday Ionia will travel to Lansing Sexton. Good work Bulldogs.

The Varisty Volleyball team traveled to Saranac for the Red Hawks Pink Out. The Bulldogs got out to a strong start with consistent play through pool play finishing 1st with a 3-0 record. The Bulldogs entered the Gold Bracket in 1st place where they took on Belding. The Bulldogs got out to a slow start after a long break and dropped the first set. However, they worked to rally back and tied up the match 1-1. After back and forth play a few errors led to a tough 13-15 loss. The third place finish was driven by a lot of great offensive effort throughout the day. Logan Thomas led the team with 27 kills, while Droste added 16 and Ireland Brown 11. Droste paced the offense consistently through out the day with 63 assists. Droste also dominated behind the service line with 22 aces while Lilly Reams dropped in 8. Kate Brown kept the ball in play consistently with 29 digs on the day while Thomas added 25. Layla Delnay led the Bulldogs on defense at the net with 4 blocks. The Bulldogs are now 11-7-1. Good work Bulldogs.
Girls Varsity Volleyball Sweeps Olivet in Conference Opener/Purple Game

The Volleyball program had a great night for their Purple Game with a straight program win. Freshman beat Portland in 3 sets and JV & Varsity swept Olivet. The Varsity squad came out ready to play in the first set of their conference opener and never backed down. There was stellar defensive effort that led to big offensive swings. The offense was led by Logan Thomas with 9 kills, while Grace Droste kept the defense on their toes with 7. Droste once again kept the offense in rhythm with 21 assists. On the service line Droste dropped in 2 aces and several players added one each. The defensive effort was once again led by Kate Brown who kept the ball consistently in play with 20 digs, while Thomas scooped up 12. At the net defensively Emma White and Layla Delnay both had a solo block. The Bulldogs improve to 1-0 in CAAC White play and 8-6-1 overall. Thank you to everyone that came out to support the teams and the community by helping honor those we played for. Great work Bulldogs!

The Varsity Volleyball team traveled to Mason today for an 8 team invitational. The Bulldogs finished 2nd in their pool before taking on Dansville in bracket play. Ionia got out to a strong start winning set 1, but fell just short dropping the match in the 3rd set 13-15. The Bulldogs had a balanced effort on defense and offense today against strong competition. Logan Thomas led the team with 25 kills while Grace Droste added 10. Grace paced the offense with 47 assists. Behind the service line Kate Brown had a day with 11 aces while Molly Waterman dropped in 8. K. Brown also led the defensive effort for the Bulldogs with 60 digs while Thomas kept 33 in play. At the net Layla Delany put up 3 blocks while Droste added 2. The Bulldogs are now 7-6-1 on the season. Make sure to join the Volleyball Teams for Purple Night next Tuesday when we open conference play against Olivet. Freshman and JV start at 5pm with Varsity to follow. Ionia worked to string together several strong defensive efforts that led to great offense, but were unable to rally and ended up dropping the match. Defensively the Bulldogs were led by Kate Brown with 21 digs while Logan Thomas added 9. At the net defensively Emma White had 2 blocks while Grace Droste added 1. Behind the service line Droste and K. Brown both dropped in 2 aces. Logan Thomas led the Bulldogs on offense with 11 kills while Grace Droste added 5. Droste dished out 12 assists while Alexias Daugherty added 6. The Bulldogs move to 6-4 on the season. Next week Ionia opens conference play against Olivet for their Purple game on Tuesday at 6pm. The Varsity Volleyball team traveled to Kent City tonight and faced off first against Manton. The Bulldogs got off to a slow start but pushed through to finish in 2 sets. Next they took on the host team. Again a slow start with some miscommunication saw the Bulldogs drop the first set. However, Ionia was able to come together in the next 2 sets to finish strong with a 3 set victory to win the tri. The Bulldogs had a balanced night on offense and defense with Kate Brown once again running the back line with 21 digs while Lexi Daugherty added 16. Defensively at the net Emma White had a night with 4 solo blocks. Logan Thomas led the offensive efforts tonight with 18 kills while Emma White added 9. Grace Droste paced those efforts with 22 assists while Daugherty added 16. Behind the service line Kate Brown racked up 3 aces while Lilly Reams added 2. The Bulldogs improve to 6-3 on the season. The Varisty Volleyball team made the trek to Parma Western tonight for a tri with the host Panthers and Tecumseh. The Bulldogs came out a bit flat in the first match against Parma and lost in 2 sets. Ionia worked hard to rally back and came within 2 of taking the second match against Tecumseh to 3 sets, but fell short in the end 26-28. Middle Hitters Emma White and Layla Delnay had a strong night at the net on defense with 4 blocks a piece. Molly Waterman and Kate Brown led on defense in the back row with 16 digs each. Offensively the Bulldogs were led by Logan Thomas with 8 kills while Grace Droste added 5. Droste also put up 16 assists. Brown and Alexias Daugherty had a strong night on the service line with 3 aces each. The Bulldogs fall to 4-3 on the season and will travel to Kent City next Wednesday for a tri.

The Ionia Bulldogs Varsity Volleyball team traveled to Lakewood to compete in the Pre-Season CAAC cross conference tournament today. The Bulldogs got off to a strong start finishing 1st in their 3 team pool with a sweep of Charlotte and Okemos. Moving into bracket play they continued their strong run with a sweep of Olivet. In the final round of bracket play coming off a break the Bulldogs struggled to find their rhythm again. Even though they had a strong run in the 2nd set, they dropped the match to St. Johns. Ionia met up with a familiar opponent in the final championship round where they beat Portland in 2 sets to finish 3rd on the day out of the 12 CAAC teams. The defense set the tone for the Bulldogs today led by Senior Kate Brown with 36 digs while Junior Molly Waterman and Freshman Logan Thomas both added 28 apiece. Senior Emma White had 5 blocks and Junior Layla Delnay added 3. Offensively the Bulldogs worked consistently to keep pushing the pace. Thomas led at the net with 23 kills and Sophomore Grace Droste added 15. Droste also dished out 50 assists on the day. Behind the service line Droste dropped 16 aces while Thomas tallied up 11. The Bulldogs start the season 4-1 and are back in action on Wednesday at Parma Western. Great work Bulldogs!
