The Ionia 8th Grade Volleyball team traveled to St. John's tonight for their final away match of the season. Ionia started off slowly in the first set and struggled on serve receive. Once we regained service possession, it was a battle for every point going forward. Logan Thomas had several great kills and Emma Hoppough hustled around the court. She did an excellent job of getting to the ball and placing it where it needed to go. The Bulldogs regrouped and kept high energy in a nail biter of a first set. Ionia won 27-25. Knowing they needed to stay energized and earn each point, the Lady Dawgs came out ready to go in the second set. Kaya Clark had two aces and several service points. Amelia Griffith was aggressive at the net and placed the ball well as a hitter. Shiann Boer helped out as a back up setter and right side. The Bulldogs took the second set 25-20. Ionia knew if they were going to take the final set, they could not give up many points in a row. Kaylee Stoakes had several great digs on defense and Ariana Frias was consistent at the net. Avery Hoppough read the court well and executed some nice kills. After a slow start, Ionia was finally playing at their pace. They took the final set with a victory of 15-7 over St. John's. Both teams worked hard tonight!
