On Saturday June 3, 2023 the Ionia Boys Track and Field team was represented by the Lone Qualifier Junior, Jacob Montgomery.  Even though the number of State Qualifiers for Ionia was down, Jacob did not disappoint.  Jacob qualified for the State Finals by winning the 800M run at the Regional Meet held in Mason on May 19th. His time of 1:57.8 seeded him in 7th for the State Finals held at Forest Hills Eastern.

     Jacob finished in 6th place at the State Championship Meet with a time of 1:56.43 to earn All State Recognition as one of the top 8 Medalists in Division 2.  Jacob is also an outstanding student and is eligible for Academic All State honors as well.  Jacobs time at the State Meet was a PR and is 0.04  seconds shy of earning the IHS School Record set By Nick Wharry in 2011(1:56.39).  Jacob wasted no time claiming that the School record is a goal for the 2024 Season.
