The Ionia Boys Track and Field Team won the Shepherd Invitational on a Chilly Friday May 7, 2021

Team Scores were as Follows: Ionia (115.5), Lansing Catholic (105), Cadillac (92), Alma (90), Shepherd 86), Hart (83.5), Clare (73), Reed City (13).

The Boys turned in a total of 7 PR's and 1 Season Record on their way to the meet victory. There were no individual outstanding performances by Ionia at the meet, instead the victory came from solid performances across the board.  Medalist's by Event for Ionia were as follows:

100 Meter Dash: Travis Tucker 3rd (11.76)

200 Meter Dash: Travis Tucker 6th (24.81)

400 Meter Dash: Lukas Schafer 3rd (56.89) and Colyn Ciganick 6th (57.98)

800 Meter Run: Heath LaPointe 2nd (2:09.09), Killian Campbell 5th (2:13.33) PR, Jacob Montgomery 6th (2:15.05)

1600 Meter Run: Jacob Montgomery 5th  (5:01.61)

3200 Meter Run: Andrew Gerdes 6th (11:00.71) PR

110 Meter Hurdles: Clay Currigan 2nd (17.36), and Austin Currigan 6th (19.57)

300 Meter Hurdles: Tyson Evans 5th (47.27)

4 X 100 Meter Relay: Team of Austin Currigan, Colter Clark, Trevor Tooker, and Travis Tucker 3rd (47.72)

4 X 200 Meter Relay: Team of Colter Clark, John Odette, Trevor Tucker, and Travis Tucker 3rd (1:41.11)

4 X 400 Meter Relay: Team of Heath LaPointe, John Odette, Colyn Ciganick, and Lukas Schafer 2nd (3:43.12)

4 X 800 Meter Relay: Team of LaPointe, Jacob Montgomery, Riley Husted, and Lukas Schafer 2nd (8:45.42)

SHOT PUT: Brandon Grant 3rd (41'-1") PR

DISCUS: Brandon Grant 4th (112'-05")

HIGH JUMP: John Odette 3rd (5'-6"), and Ethan Canfield 6th (5'-2")

LONG JUMP: Kullan Granger 4th (18'-5")

**ELITE 3200 Meter Run**

Ionia's own, Josiah Magley qualified to run in the Elite 3200 Meter Run which was held after the Shepherd Invitational on Friday May 7th.  Josiah competed in a field of 33 male high school runners from across the State of Michigan from all Divisions.  To qualify for the event Josiah had to break 10:00 in the 3200 during the 2021 season.  He entered the Race Seeded 31st with a time of 9:57.  Josiah finished the race in 18th place with a new PR of 9:39.70.

The Bulldogs currently have an overall Dual Meet Record of 4-1 and 4-0 in the CAAC White Division.  The victory at the Shepherd Invitational was the 2nd time this season they brought home a Top Finisher Plaque.  They finished Runner Up in the Bulldog Relays on April 23, 2021.  THe next CAAC Dual Meet is Tuesday May 11th at Eaton Rapids where they will attempt to remain undefeated in the CAAC.  The meet begins with Field Events at 4:30.  Full Results of all meets, Including the Shepherd Invitational may be found at athletic.net
